My Motto

Be compassionate to the needy, Neither squander wealth nor hoard it. Never lose your sense of shame, if questions are asked of you, answer them frankly but do not ask too many yourself. Be manly and of good cheer. Never kill a foe who is begging for mercy and be ever loyal in love

Own your own way

Regret

Let`s Write Something Opposed to Something

Smoking kills more people than AIDS, drug abuse, car accidents and crime. Did you know that 36.900,000 people around the globe die each year from cigarette smoking? Smoking tobacco causes 1 out of 6 deaths. Smoking can also cause some very serious diseases. Some people become addicted to smoking.  Lung cancer has caused more deaths in women than breast cancer. If a pregnant woman smokes, she has a greater chance of medical problems with her baby. Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of cancer death in men. Male smokers over the age of 35 are more likely to die from smoking-related diseases like lung cancer. Many children start smoking before they reach high school. They run the risk of smoking most of their lives. So I think that smoking must totally be banned everywhere, tobacco products should never be sold and the dealers should be punished as harshly as possible.

SUMMARY OF COURSES

Course 1:  Child and Child Literature
Child perception, as it is accepted throughout the world, is bound to accept each child as miniature adults in Turkey, too. However, this perception has started to change in 19th and 20th centuries when serious studies were done about education and child psychology.  The increasing number of schools has accelerated this growth. Child Literature also started to appear during this period. According to UN child right agreement everybody till 18 years is accepted as child. Child Literature is defined such a literature that focuses the sense and thought by considering child`s understanding and comprehension level in adolescence period of child.  The early samples of Child Literature in Turkey of which early samples started to be written in Europe in 19th century started with translation in reform period of Ottoman Empire and then written samples were published.

Course 2: Child Literature in Reform and Constitutional Monarch Periods in Turkey
Child Literature in Turkey, of which early samples were written with the translation in reform period, accelerated its development in constitutional monarch period.  The reason of this is that the politicians of that period gave importance to education thereby children and Child Literature. Many famous child classics were translated during that period between 1908-1918. Over fifty child magazines and newspapers were published. Also, original child books started to be published in the period which the writers and scholars of the country began to have sensitivity about the importance of child education and literature. Child theatre studies also started in this period.

Course 3: Child Literature in Turkey During the Republic Era
Child Literature had a new stage after the foundation of the republic. Child Literature was used as a device to teach the new regime`s principals to the children. This period can be named as didactical period. Child Literature had another different stage under the affects of political and social conditions after the period which lasted till 1960s. Hundreds of child books that especially have left winked ideology were published in that period. The Child Literature in that period, that we can name it as an ideological period, tried to direct  children according to writers` point of view. 1980 military coup brought more conservative and apolitical status to country. In one hand Child Literature had a religious/ conservative way, on the other hand a new writer community who just wrote for children appeared. While the domination of child classics in this period that we can name it as poetic, qualified and original child literature works leaped out. Yalvaç Ural, Mustafa Ruhi Şirin, Gülçin Alpöge, Gülten Dayıoğlu, Fatih Erdoğan, Aytül Akal, Mavisel Yener, Mevlana İdris can be accepted today`s child literature writers.

Course -4: Turkish Literature from Reform Period to Republic
Turkish Literature had a new stage with reform period in 1839. Turkish Literature met many new genres like novel, fiction, theatre. In the new period that started with translation studies, Turkish literature turned into a brand new literature that contains qualified and original works.  While Turkish literature, which was defined as a literature of distinguished community with certain symbols in poetry, was changing, the basis of the modern poetry laid a foundation until 1923 when the republic was declared. Fiction; it was necessary to wait for the end of 19th century to read the early products of the fiction that just entered Turkish literature then. At the beginning of 1900s especially Ömer Seyfettin`s  fictions, which are widely read today,  still take attention. Novel genre samples that just entered Turkish Literature still exists with original works despite the technical troubles encountered. In the first quarter of 20th century, western style novel works started to appear.

Course-5; Modern Turkish Literature
The declaration of republic and starting to use the new alphabet in 1928 are the important effects on Turkish literature. In this period, qualified and original works started to appear in both poetry and fiction genre or in novel genre. Ideological and political oppositions were started to be seen in literature too as it was seen almost in every field of live especially since 1960s. Istanbuzzzzzzzz :-)

Annabel Lee

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT POEMS I LIKED AT UNIVERSITY EVEN IF I USED TO HATE POETRY THEN. ANYWAY, WHENEVER I READ THIS IT REMINDS ME MY DEAR TEACHER ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ISMAIL OGRETIR WHO IS ONE OF THE WITTIEST LECTURERS I HAVE EVER HAD SO FAR AT BOTH UNIVERSITY OR THE OTHER EDUCATION FOUNDATIONS. EDGAR ALLAN POE MUST HAVE WRITTEN THIS POEM BY ADDRESSING A WOMAN, I GUESS. OTHERWISE NO ONE CAN GRANT SUCH A GREAT POEM TO HUMANITY, THANKS TO GOD WE HAD THE CHANCE TO WITNESS THESE MAGNIFICIENT POETS, HOWEVER WHAT I REALLY WANT TO MENTION IS NOT EDGAR ALLAN POE, NOT THE CREATOR OF THE POEM BUT THE TRANSLATOR OF IT INTO TURKISH BECAUSE NOBODY CAN DENY THAT MELIH CEVDET ANDAY CREATED A BRAND NEW MEANING OR POEM " ANNABEL LEE" I WISH EVERYBODY COULD UNDERSTAND TURKISH AND GET WHAT I MEAN SINCE A POET, I BELIEVE, CANNOT BE TRANSLATED WITH ITS FULLY MEANING. YOU JUST CANNOT GIVE THE MEANING THAT THE POET REALLY INTENDS TO DELIVER BUT MELIH CEVDET ANDAY WAS ABLE TO DO THIS. I DO RECOMMEND YOU TO READ THIS MARVELOUS POEM BOTH FROM POE AND ANDAY BECAUSE THESE TWO GREAT POETS ARE WORTHY TO BE READ EVERY TIME NOT NOW AND AGAIN.

HERE ARE THE TWO VERSIONS OF THE POEM; ENGLISH AND TURKISH.

ANNABEL LEE
Senelerce senelerce evveldi
Bir deniz ülkesinde
Yaşayan bir kız vardı bileceksiniz
İsmi: Annabel Lee
Hiç birşey düşünmezdi sevilmekten
Sevmekten başka beni
O çocuk ben çocuk, memlketimiz
O deniz ülkesiydi
Sevdalı değil karasevdalıydık
Ben ve Annabel Lee
Göklerde uçan melekler
Kıskanırlardı bizi
Bir gün işte bu yüzden göze geldi
O deniz ülkesinde
Üşüdü bir rüzgarından bulutun
Güzelim Annabel Lee
Götürdüler el üstünde
Koyup gittiler beni
Mezarı oradadır şimdi
O deniz ülkesinde
Biz daha bahtiyardık meleklerden
Onlar kıskanırlardı bizi
Evet! Bu yüzden "Şahıdimdir herkes ve deniz ülkesi"
Bir gece rüzgarından bulutun
Üşüdü gitti Annabel Lee
Sevdadan yana kim olursa olsun
Yaşca başca ileri
Geçemezlerdi bizi
Ne yedi kat göklerdeki melekler
Ne deniz dibi cinleri
 Hiç biri ayıramaz seni benden
Güzelim Annabel Lee
Ay gelir ışır. hayalin erişir
Güzelim Annabel Lee
Orda gecelerim uzanır beklerim
Sevgilim sevgilim hayatım gelinim
O azgın sahildeki
Yattığın yerde seni...

Gossip with the girls !

Women are experts at gossiping, and they always talk about trivial things, or at least that’s what men have always thought. However, some new research suggests that when women talk to women, their conversations are far from frivolous, and cover many more topics (up to 40 subjects) than when men talk to other men. Women’s conversations range from health to their houses, from politics to fashion, from films to family, from education to relationship problems. Football is notably absent. Men tend to have a more limited range of subjects, the most popular being work, sport, jokes, cars, and women.
According to Professor Petra Boynton, a psychologist at University College London, who interviewed over 1000 women, women also tend to move quickly from one subject to another in conversation, whereas men usually stick to one subject for longer periods of time.
At work, this difference can be an advantage for men, where they can put other matters aside and concentrate fully on the topic being discussed. On the other hand, it also means that they sometimes find it hard to concentrate when several things have to be discussed at the same time in a meeting.
Professor Boynton also says that men and women chat for different reasons. In social situations, women use conversation to solve problems and reduce stress while men chat with each other to have a laugh or to swap opinions.

Somebody Should Have Told

I am sick and tired that kind of living style. There are so many ups and downs even pros and cons in my life, I do not want to be down and out now and again, I wish I was safe and sound and did not have to deal with bits and pieces during my life. sooner or later it comes to me so I may have to decide that " now or never" or "all or nothing". what I have been doing recently is to pace backwards and forwards. I do need some peace and quiet. A bit of give and take is no longer enough for me.

I Wish

Now when I look in the mirror and think, ‘Oh dear, I’m getting older’, it reminds me that I used to do the same thing when I was 19 and 20. I used to look at myself and think I looked awful. I wish I’d known what I was going to look like thirty years later, because then I might have realized how gorgeous I was then. I looked great but I didn’t appreciate it – what a waste!

I now understand that it’s OK to be successful. When I was 19 I was starring on TV and making loads of money, but most of my friends were university students. I felt embarrassed, and used to walk around with my hands in front of my face so as not to be recognized. I wish I’d known that it’s possible to enjoy the good things about fame, and that you can keep your friendships in spite of it.

I wish I had learned sooner how to listen to people properly. I used to think I had to be intelligent and witty in social situations. If I’d known how much people appreciate being listened to, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to be the life and soul of the party.

Life has taught me that sometimes when people behave badly to you it is because of some unhappiness that they are carrying around with them, a problem that has nothing to do with you. I wish I had been more gentle with people in that situation and not reacted so angrily. Once you find out what’s really going on, the whole relationship can change.

My dad always used to say, ‘learn what you can while you are young and at school, because when you are older you either won’t have enough time or won’t have enough money to pay for lessons.’ That was good advice, and I wish I’d spent more time on my piano lessons.

Finally, I wish I had always said yes to challenges. I’d say to young people today, if you are offered the opportunity to do something you have never done before, go for it. You might feel a little nervous, but say yes anyway.

A Weird Weekend

IT HAS BEEN MONTHS SINCE WE DID NOT GET CRAZY OR DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR OUR LIVES EXPECT WORKING AND WORKING AND WORKING. IT CAN BE EASILY MENTIONED THAT I HAVE A GOD DAMN BORING, FUCKING LIFE SINCE I GOT HANDCUFFED. OF COURSE THIS DOES NOT STEM FROM YASEMIN IN CONTRAST THE REAL FACT IS THE DEBT THAT WE INHERITED FROM BANKS BY TRYING TO PAY OUR COSTS FOR BEING A MARRIED COUPLE. I CANNOT STAND LIVING UNDER THE PRESSURE OF DEBT THAT I HAVE TO LIVE A RUSH LIFE SO AS TO GET RID OF IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, ACTUALLY THIS IS AN IRREFUTABLE FACT THAT I SHOULD HAVE MARRIED AFTER SAVING SOME MONEY BUT I COULD NOT BECAUSE OF VARIOUS REASONS, MAINLY BECAUSE OF COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE DURING 6 MONTHS. ANYWAY MY INTENTION WAS DIFFERENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS WHEN I START WRITING THIS, LAST WEEK WE DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS TOO DIFFICULT TO PERSUADE YASEMIN TO GO TO GONUL`S WEDDING CEREMONY IN GAZIOSMANPASA YESILPINAR. I HAD SOME CLASSES AT AMERICAN CULTURE BEFORE WEDDING THEREFORE I LEFT THE HOUSE BEFORE YASEMIN AND I KINDLY REQUESTED HER TO BE THE VERY MOST BEAUTIFUL LIKE THOSE OLD DAYS AT UNIVERSITY. I NOTICED THAT I REALLY MISS HAVING SOME ACTIVITIES AND SOME FUN WITH OTHERS. I REALLY LIKE PLAYING FOLK DANCE ( IF I CAN GET SOME PICTURES, I WANNA POST SOME OF THEM). SHE WORN A NICE BLACK DRESS AND THEN WE WENT TO CEREMONY. GONUL WAS VERY HAPPY AND HAD SUCH BRILLIANT EYES THAT DESERVED TO BE SEEN. AS A MATTER OF FACT WE WERE GOING TO SHOP AFTER THE WEDDING BUT THE TIME WAS LATE FOR DOING SOME SHOPPING SO WE HEADED BACK TO HOME. YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE SHUTTLE WHICH CARRIED US TO HOME, WE WERE LIKE CRAZY MONKEYS. IF MY STUDENTS HAD SEEN US, THEY WOULD OT PROBABLY BEHAVE US AS THEIR TEACHERS NOW. THIS WAS OUR SATURDAY. OUR SUNDAY PLAN WAS A LITTLE BOT DIFFERENT WE PLANNED TO GO BREAKFAST TO CAMLICA WITH  MY STUDENTS BUT ALL GIRLS DECIDED NOT TO COME, THEY LOST. A FEW STUDENTS CAME AND WE DID OUR BREAKFAST AND THEN TAKE A SMALL WALK AROUND CAMLICA WITH STUDENTS. ONURHAN WAS SO FUNNY THAT HE WAS COLD SO MUCH :-). AFTER THE BREAKFAST YASEMIN CHANGED HER MIND AND WANTED TO GO SHOPPING THAT WE COULD NOT DO A DAY BEFORE. WE WENT TO CAPITOL AND WE HAD JUST ABOUT ONE HOUR TO DO IT BUT AS ALWAYS YASEMIN MANAGED TO MAKE ME LATE FOR WORK BY COMING OUT LATE. TO BE ABLE TO BE PUNCTUAL FOR WORK, WE HAD TO TAKE A TAXI FROM CAPITOL TO TASDELEN, IT COSTED ABOUT 40 TL, BY THE WAY I WAS TO FORGET THAT I BOUGHT A JERSEY TO MAHMUT A BARCELONA JERSEY AS NEW YEAR PRESENT.
